Stay away from Aspartame and watch out for Diethyl glycol

I've now seen a couple articles discussing the danger of Aspartame.  When it gets heated as may happen during the shipping of soda pop containing aspartame.  It can break down into methanol.  There is also speculation that simply ingesting it where it warms up to body temperature may be enough for it to start breaking down and becoming methanol and whatever else it is synthesized from.

Diethylene glycol which is closely related to ethylene glycol, the primary component of antifreeze, is known to have a sweet taste.  Unfortunately, it has been popping up in some strange places, even here in the U.S.A., like some dollar store toothpaste in 2007.  It is very toxic for you, but good for your car in the winter time.
